The story centers around two English ex-patriots who are hired by a major oil company to find oil reserves anywhere in the world using a geological survey satellite. Under threats from the company's corrupt president to find oil, and knowing the satellite does not work for this purpose, the men decide to reconfigure it to search for gold instead.

Florida State Book Awards Luncheon for "Surrounded by Thunder" at Governor's Mansion hosted by First Lady Ann Scott.
That evening, awards will be presented to the Gold Medal Winners at the Florida Heritage Awards Ceremony and Reception sponsored by the State of Florida’s Division of Cultural Affairs at Mission San Luis.
Following the ceremony, Gold Medal winners will be able to sign copies of their books.
